Internship Program: Agent-based modelling of city logistics in the Municipality of Turin

Since June 2017 Despina has opened an internship program in collaboration with the City of Turin, the Department of Economics and Statistics at the University of Turin and the Department of Economics at University of Insubria. Elena Beretta, fresh graduate in data science at MADAS (www.madas.carloalberto.org) will join our team as junior research fellow under the supervision of dr. Elena Vallino and contribute to the project "New Cooperative Business Models and Guidance for Sustainable City Logistics" (NoVELOG - http://novelog.eu/), funded by the European Union Program Horizon 2020 and coordinated by Professor Elena Maggi.

The aim of the research is to explore to what extent the policies fostered by the City of Turin within the NOVELOG Project could trigger more ecological behaviours by retailers during the freight provision process, in the context of city logistics dynamics. The methodology used is agent-based modelling. The work includes the analysis of Turin’s traffic data and the development of agent-based simulations of different scenarios: absence of policy, presence of the existing policy and presence of alternative policies.

Just after the MADAS diploma, Elena Beretta has been granted with a PhD scholarship by the Politecnico of Turin and in September 2017 she will join the Nexa Center for Internet & Society at Politenico of Turin to start its research on data and algorithms ethics.
